During this project, the present architecture of a regional aircraft (ATR 72) will be explored. We will learn about the different sub-systems present inside a modern aircraft that work together to safely transport passengers and cargo. Apart from the primary systems that propel the aircraft, we will also dwell briefly on secondary sub-systems that manage other important functions of an aircraft like actuation of flight control surfaces, air-conditioning, ice protection, etc. We will develop a high level model of the aircraft using a system architecting software called CAPELLA using System Engineering principles. Moving from conventional architecture, we will try to build a ‘More Electrical Aircraft’ (MEA) in which all secondary sub-systems will use electrical energy even though the aircraft still uses conventional propulsion system. As a final step, work can be extended to the development of Hybrid Propulsion system depending on the time available.

Interest in aerospace engineering / systems architecture / systems engineering. • B.E – any branch. More relevant to aerospace, mechanical, industrial. • Prior knowledge of aerospace basics will help in faster progress. But not mandatory.
